1 out of 10 people are affected by kidney disease
It is the second-fastest growing cause of death around the world
In vibrant communities like ours, a silent health crisis is unfolding. Kidney failure is the second-fastest growing cause of death worldwide, bringing immense hardship to patients and their families. Right here in Scarborough, the numbers tell a heartbreaking story: immigrants are four times more likely to need dialysis, and the Filipino community is over six times more likely to face this life-altering treatment. Much of this is driven by diabetes, a condition Filipinos in our community face at four times the rate of non-immigrants.
Once kidney disease reaches failure, the only remaining options are dialysis or a transplant. But it does not have to be this way. The power to change a patient's story lies in prevention and early treatment.
That is why My Kidney Care exists. With 100,000 people in Scarborough lacking a family doctor, navigating the healthcare system can feel impossible. We built this platform to be your guide. We are here to help you self-identify your risks, boldly advocate for the screening you deserve, and connect with the right clinics to protect your family’s future.
